S&S Indie Review: Rad Raygun

Title: Rad Raygun
Format: Xbox Live Indie Game
Genre: Platformer
Release Date: February 19, 2013
Developer: TRU FUN Entertainment
Price: 80 MSP
Rating: Violence = 1/3, Sex = 0/3, Mature Content = 1/3

It's the year 198X, and there is only one robot hero that can save us from Medved and his evil Soviet robots: Rad Raygun. The President has entrusted Raygun to stop the Soviet Union and to spread freedom and democracy. His adventure takes him around the world to places like the Berlin Wall and even Irafganistan. And the game's appeal isn't just its Game Boy influence - it's peppered with humorous references and clever design. The enemies aren't just the run of the mill bad guys. They’re often bizarre and imaginative, which only adds to the charm of this classic styled platformer. And there’s plenty of bizarre references of yesteryear (Devo hats, anyone?) for fans of the 80's and those old enough to remember.

Year Walk is the fourth Simogo project. It stretches over two different apps. A game called Year Walk, and a free app called Year Walk Companion. Year Walk is a first person puzzle, adevtnure, and artful game based on the Swedish myth of the same name. People who wish to year walk isolate themselves and refuse to eat or drink for a full day before striking off toward the local church at the stroke of midnight. At the beginning of Year Walk, you start right into afew lines of notable text and then right into the game. No difficulty levels, no settings, or pausing. As soon as you figure out how to control your view, which is at first only swiping left and right, or up and down. You are looking at your cabin at the beginning of the game.

S&S Indie Review: Heavy Recoil

Title: Heavy Recoil
Format: Xbox Live Indie Game
Genre: Shooter
Release Date: December 12, 2012
Developer: Wild Pixel Games
Price: 80 MSP
Rating: Violence = 1/3, Sex = 0/3, Mature Content = 0/3

Are you longing for a hardcore retro, side scrolling shooter? Heavy Recoil delivers a classic arcade shooter experience to the Xbox 360, and made sure not to skimp on the retro look and feel. The music is great and the graphics are beautifully low-res, but Wild Pixel Games didn't stop at aesthetics. The game play is strikingly close to the shooters of the 90’s from top to bottom. There are no continues in this horizontal shooter, and you’ll certainly be met with challenge even though your objective is straightforward.
