S&S Reviews: Amazing Spiderman

Title: The Amazing Spiderman
Format: PS3 / 360 / 3DS (DS version not developed by Beenox)
Release Date: 6-26-12
Publisher: Activision Publishing
Developer: Beenox
Price: $59.99
ESRB Rating: T

As the third offering from Beenox in the Spiderman franchise, Amazing Spiderman is a game that seems acutely aware of its own background. As a Spiderman game, it offers plenty enough web slinging action to satisfy. As a movie licensed tie-in, the game lives within the lines and only aspires to moments of inspired gaming as opposed to a simply amazing overall experience.

S&S Indie Review: Overdriven

Title: Overdriven // Format: XBLIG // Release Date: 06-21-12 // Publisher & Developer: ChucuGames // Price: 240 MS points // Violence: 1/3 // Sex: 1/3 // Mature Content: 1/3

The first thing you'll notice when entering the main menu for the 'bullet hell' shooter Overdriven is the captivating music, and this is a positive throughout the entirety of the game. After all, you need appropriately motivational music to listen to when dodging missiles that cover the majority of the screen.

S&S Indie Review: Superdimension Iliad

Title: Superdimension Iliad // Format: XBLIG // Release Date: 06/15/12 // Publisher & Developer: We Love Hamsters Software // 80 MS Points // Violence: 1/3 // Sex: 1/3 // Language: 0/3

Superdimension Iliad is a side-scrolling action-platformer that takes you back to the good old days of pixelated gaming. The goddess Iliad wishes to see the evolution of the digital world for herself. As the avatar "Ball," you progress through the early virtual generations that include Atari, Intellivision, the Nintendo and Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems, and the Sega Genesis, encountering Iliad and her minions on the way. We Love Hamsters aimed to bring back everything glorious about gaming from the old days, but instead the designer exaggerated one aspect in particular that characterized the darker side of retro gaming.

S&S Indie Review: Pendulous

S&S Indie Review- Pendulous- Developed by Strange Attractor
XBLIG- Justin Foster
Released 5/11/12
80ms points

Hello everyone, this week I played through Pendulous which is an indie platformer.  The game lets you control a gear, and the goal is to get the gear to the exit portal on the other side of the level.  To do this you swing from sphere to sphere trying to avoid obstacles and overshooting the target.  It is a pretty basic concept but still manages to be fun.  This game does everything that it tries to do, and has only a few issues that are barely noticeable.
While I was playing this I felt like I was just passing time between other games I play or before I would go to sleep.  The game is not bad or boring by any stretch of the imagination, but the game doesn’t do anything to make me want to play more.

Pokemon Conquest is a refreshing new take on the incredibly popular Pokemon series. Although it is unlike the previous Pokemon games, it is still successful in it's execution but lacking in it's core gameplay elements.
